NAPIER, February 5. At a meeting of the Petane Racing Club, held on Saturday evening it was decided;to appoint Mr C. L. Mackersey as the; Club’s representative at the adjourned inquiry of the Metropolitan body in con-, nection with the riding of F. Twyford, who struck bad luck at Wairoa through running a nail into one of his, feet, is still one of the hospital lot. Top Rose, Gatenby, Oasis and Monaugue comprise J. Rollos team at present- Rollos’ many friends will be sorry to learn that the veteran is going none top well just now, a bad leg confining him to his domicile.

Fred Davis has started educating a quartette of young ’uns. The novices are colts by .Merriwee out of Lady Helen, by Gold Reef out of la, by Multiform out of Sou it Rose, and a full sister to Chanteuse. la’s baby son is the property of Mr A. I. Ellingham, who recently acquired possession of him. The balance of Davis’ new pupils belong to Mr T. H. Lowry. Cauldron, a coming three-year-old full, brother to Merriwai, joined T. Guinlivan’s forces the other day. Mr R. B. Sim, of Mohaka, did well with Lord Bobs for, just prior to the Mohaka Meeting he gave for Hotchkiss’ son and at the Wairoa fixture got home with’ him in a double, and in each of his su£P cesses the big gelding paid good prices on the machine. -

Harry Moore is imparting the rudiments of education to Possibility and Mayhap’s yearling full brother, who was bought privately by Moore last month at Hastings after he had been quitted by pub ic auction. Ngahaere, who missed the bus at Wairoa in the Handicap Hack Scurry through failing to weigh in with a portion of his martingale, is quartered at Petane. The Wairoa County Racing Club made a profit of over the late annual race meeting.

Ni Puna won the two principal events J the Marumaru and Robson Handicaps at; the Marumaru fixture last week with Donald and Gold Ship respectively. ; J. Prosser has quitted L. Teurupu’-s' employment and now only has Tangoio in work, who scored in the Hack Scurry: at Marumaru yesterday. _ R. Smythe, the one tirriS owner of Eclair, has a useful pair of horses in work— Banker and Shanks. He is also pottering about a younger brother to Tan-. gimoana, a likely looking horse. Some of the residents of Nuhaka intend to apply to the Racing Conference for a permit to hold a race meeting. Mr G. C. Ormond is interesting himself in the matter and with such a good man at the wheel it looks even odds on the* chance. Should the necessary permission be obtained from the governing pow--ers it may be expected that matters will run smoothly, and good results may be looked for.

The following horses left Hastings on ; Saturday morning to fulfil engagements at Gisborne :—Dan Leno, Black Reynard, Kaipetipeti, Te Arai, Caron, Forest Ranger, Whakawhei, Maiora, Pumpkin .and Matakokiri.
