A BIG FLEET RACE FOR THE NORTH SHORE Y.C. PRIZE.
The cruising race to Kaway on Saturday drew a fine entry of yachts flying the red, white and blue burgee of the North Shore Yacht Club. The entries and handicaps were:—Moana, scratch; Ilex, 10m.; Heartsease, 20m. \ Thistle, 30m.; Wairere. 32m.; Wainiki, 35m.; Mahaki, 40m.; Emerald, 43m.; Yum Yum, 45m.; Viola, 40m.; Mystery, 43m.; Rosina, 40m.; Okere 50m.; Gloriana, 47m.; Mabel, 60m.; Maru, 50m.; Seagull, 50m.; Tiro, 53m.; May Belle, 65m.;, Kaho 80m.; Wanderer, 75m.; Ethel, 90m.; Ranee, 68m.; Encounter, 100 m.; Tangaroa, 100 m.; Kamo, 120 m.; Orangi, 120 m.; Niobe 125 m.; Rhona, 140 m. Moana, Taangaroa, Mystery, and Rhona did not . start. A . prettier sight than the start could hardly be imagined. The wind, which had been southerly all the morning, veered round and blew a very light northerly, making it a tedious beat all the way down, and the yachts made very long passages. The finishing times were:—Ilex, 9h. 57m.; Heartsease. lOh. 2m.; Wairere, lOh. 12m. 305.; Yum Yum, lOh. 24m. 305.; Thistle, lOh. 37m.; Wairiki, lOh. 39m.; Gloriana, lOh. 40m. 305.; Kaho, llh. Im.; Wanderer, llh. 4m.; Rhona 12h. Bm. On time allowance Yum Yum and Emerald were a dead heat for first place; Wairere third, Kaho, fourth; Heartsease, fifth; and Ilex, sixth. Messrs. A. J. Farmer and F. E. Jackson were the timekeepers.
