AQUATICS.
PONSONBY REGATTA. Fine weather favoured the Ponfionby Regatta the sun shining brightly, while there was a nice sailing breeze and not too much sea on for the rowing events. The Northern Company’s steamers Clansman and Waimarie acted as the flagships, and both were very liberally patronised by spectators. The officials were as follows: —Sailing events: Mr. W. Carter, starter; Mr. D. Patterson, judge; Mr. F. R. Speight, timekeeper. Rowing events: Mr. N. Wade, starter and umpire; Mr. B. S. Finn, judge. Side shows: Mr. J. Conway, starter; Mr. E. Bain, judge. (Motor launch races: Mr. P. Howden, timekeeper; Captain St. Clair Whyte starter and judge. The handicappers were: Messrs. W. Carter, Wm. W. Sinton, A, Clare, sailing events; Messrs. M. W. Lane, James Reid, motor launch races. The racing on the whole was of a very interesting nature, the entries in most of the events being well up to the average. In the Class 11. Yacht Race the finishing times were: —Thistle, sh. 24m. 135.; Kotiri, sh. 24m. 485.; Quueenie, sh. 24m. 515.; Ngatira, sh. 25m. 285.; Wairere 11. sh. 36m. 445.; Yum Yum, sh. 46m. ?ss. On time allowance Thistle was first, Ngatira second, and Queenie third. In the Handicap Yacht Race under 26ft, the finishing times were: Emerald, 6h. lc. 565.; Mystery, 6h. sm. 215.; Seagull, 6h. 10m. 495; Lina, 6h. 25m. 455. On time allowance the result of the race is as above. Yachts, 25ft and under: Wairiki, sh. 31m. 515.; Rosina, sh. 40m. 9s. Patikis: The finishing times were: —Doreen sh. 21m. 535.; Colleen, sh. 25m. 45.; Valdora, sh. 37m. 18s.; Eona, sh. 48m. Is. The result on time allowance is: Doreen first, Colleen second, Valdora third. Yacht Race, Ponsonby Class: The finishing times were: Tiro, sh. 33m. 345.; Maru, sh. 35m. 225.; Glady, sh. 49m. 16s. On time allowance the re- „ siilt is as above. . - Yacht Race, 28ft 0.a., keel boats. — The finishing times were: Wanderer. sh. 59m.; Mayo. 6h. 14m. Is.'; Awatea 6h. 14m. Bs.; Niobe, 6h. 16m. 75.; Dolphin, 6h. 23m. 3s. On time allowance Wanderer is first, Awatea second, and Niobe third. Yacht Race, 22ft and under, Ponsonby class. —The finishing times were: Mowai, 6h. Bm. 10s.; Welcome Jack, 6h. 13m.; Hetty, 6h. 18m. 375.; Hilda, 6h. 24m. 16s. On time allowance Mowai is first, Welcome Jack second and Hetty third. Open Boats, 16ft and under. —The finishing times were: Daphne, sh. 41m. 335.; Estrella, sh. 42m. 45.; Sylvia, sh. 42m. 65.; Rarere, sh. 51m. Is.; Else, sh. 51m. 465.; Mapu, sh. 54m.; Romeo, sh. 54m. On time allowance Sylvia is first, Daphne second and Rarere third. Motor Launch Race, Handicap (under seven knots): Huia, scratch; Marama, scratch; Snowflake, 4m.; Daphne, 7m.; Edna, Bm.; Aenone, Bm.; Little Bill, 9m.; Veroiiique, 10m.; Iris, 10m.; Iri, 13m. The finish was: Daphne first, Iris second, Little Bill third. Motor Launch Race’ Handicap (seven knots and over): Rochesttr, scratch; Regal 11., 21m.; Shadow, 30m.; Fairbanks, 33m.; Maroro, 50m.; Marere, 56m.; Gloria, 56m.; Huana, 56m.; Regal, 58m.; Ngaro, 58m.; Banshee, 58m. Ngao first, with Regal 11. second, and Maroro third. Maiden Fours (lOst and under): North Shore 1, Waitemata and West End a dead heat. Maiden Fours (open): North Shore 1, West End (No. 2) 2, West End (No. 3) 3. Senior Fours: Waitemata 1, West End 2. Junior Fours: West End 1, Waitemata 2. Junior Fours (open): West End 1, North Shore (No. 1) 2. Sculling Handicap: H. B. Harper 1, C. E. Stone 2.
The race for the first-class yachts at the Ponsonby Regatta failed to draw entries. This doesn’t look well. ♦ * * * In the Christmas number of the “ Review,” which will appear on Saturday, will be found some fine pictures of Auckland’s best-known yachts. * * * » Spray won from a big fleet in the handicap promoted by the Manukau Yacht Club on.
