THE TERM “COGNAC.”
Following is a copy of an order from the Assistant Comptroller-General of the Commonwealth that has been issued for rhe information of officers: —“It has been decided not to allow the term “Cognac’ to be applied to Australian brandies. With regard ro imported brandes, a request has been made that the term ‘Cognac’ may be restricted to brandy distilled from pure grape wine in the district of Cognac in France. In this connection, as it is understood that the question as to the use of the term is rece ving the attention of the French Government, no such restriction as that desired can be approved for the present.”
