CRICKET.
The Marylebone C.C. is expected to send a team to Australia next season —that is, to start their programme in that country in November. From England it is learned that practically all the England players are available, if the Hon. F. S. Jackson and C. B. Fry be excepted, though these, too, may now be available. Jt is understood that K. Hutchings,’ who made such a great name last season, and R. H. Spooner, the brilliant Lancastrian are both desirous of making the trip. All the leading professionals are available, these including Hayward, Hirst, Tyldesley. The team is therefore likely to be one of the most powerful ever organised by England. The names of a team suggested by an English cricketer in a letter to an Australian friend are: —Jackson, Fry, MacLaren, Hutchings, Spooner, Hayward, Hirst, Rhodes, Tyldesley, Lilley, and Martin. To these, of course, would be added some bowlers. It is not, however, anticipated that all the above players will be in the next team to visit Australia. * * * * At the annual meeting of the Warwickshire County Cricket Club recently, a loss of £4OOO in the last seven or eight years was reported, and the opinion expressed that the members fell off in number and the gate receipts in amount in consequence of the slow cricket played by some of the county eleven. The captain, J. F. Byrne, said frankly that the committee had determined to have more attractive cricket played by the team, and if batsmen would not make runs at a reasonable rate no room would be found for them in the eleven. It is good news to hear that C. B. Fry reports himself fit to play cricket during the approaching season, he having apparently completely recovered from his breakdown early last summer.
