GOLF.

Mons. P. Hebert, secretary of the Societe de la Boulie Golf de Paris, writes forwarding a programme for the Grand Championship International Challenge Cup, which takes place on June 13, 14, and 15. The list of events also includes the Henry Cachard Challenge Cup and the open championship of France. The president of the society is the Grand Duke Michel Michailowitch. I shall be pleased to give particulars to any golfer who may be interested. * * * * A fine golfing performance was achieved recently by the French professional, Arnand Massey, in a tournament at Cannes, where the season is how i" full swing.. The affair,

which was promoted by the Grand Duke Michael of Russia, was a 36-hole stroke competition, with a first prize of £62 and a gold medal, second of £33 and a silver medal, and third of £l5. There were twelve competitors, including the flower of England’s professionals, but Massey proved equal to beating the lot, though winning first prize by only one point from Edward Ray. The full score of this remarkable tourney was as follows: — A. Massey, 149; E. Ray, 150; J. H. Taylor, 152; Rowland Jones, 154; Tom Vardon, 155; Alexander Herd, 155; Harry Vardon, 157; James Braid, 157; Ben Sayers, 157; B. Callaway, 159; Jack White, 174; C. Callaway, 178. Massey is, of course, no novice at the game, having often before figured prominently in matches and tournaments in his own country and in England, and he is the present holder of the championship of France On the following day Massey maintained his brilliant form, he, in partnership with Rowland Jones, winning a 36-hole four-ball competition, the best ball counting at each hole, with the fine score of 137, the pair easily defeating the two other English players by margins of from 4 to 12 points.

The first match of the season was played at the Cornwall Park links on Saturday. The game was a medal handicap over 18 holes, and resulted in a win for Dargaville with a score of 74 (handicap being 14). Others who returned cards were: F. V. Kelly, 96 (14), 82; Colbeck, 83 (scratch), 83; Newton, 108 (25), 83; Sykes, 93 (8), 86; Heather, 88 (3), 85; Burns, 88 (scratch), 88; Chatfield, 113 (24), 89; P. T. Upton, 97 (8), 89; D.
