BOWLING.
Saturday was a genuine bowler’s day, and as a consequence there were an immense number of players taking part in their favourite pastime, interclub games being in full swing.

There was a particularly close match between Auckland and Carlton, and as the latter had to strain a point to put twelve rinks into the field, their victory by the narrow margin of two points (235 to 233) was thoroughly well deserved. As so often happens, each club won away from home. The games went as under: —■ Auckland —Arnold, Piggott, Elliott, Thornes (skip)—24, v. Carlton —Schisshka, Carey, Heald, McCallum (skip) —3O.

There was a somewhat pointed instance of the change of fortune in a game in the first-year players’ match oh Saturday between Carlton and Auckland. The latter led off, and at one time had 11 to 3 in their favour. Then things went the other way, and they aid not score again, Carlton winning by 21 to 11. ‘

* * » * Onehunga will play Auckland next Saturday in an inter-club match.
Forsyth and Ledingham have won the final of the Novelty Pairs on the Auckland green, beating Littler and Oliphant by 26 to 17.
The programme for the Easter tournament has been drawn up by the Association Match Committee. It includes the singles (champion of champions), the pennant competition (two teams from each affiliated club), the invitations four (open), invitation pairs, and first year’s players. The winners of the invitation .fours will have the right to play the winners of the pennant competitions for the champion shield and president’s gold medals. All entries close on Monday, March 25, between half-past seven and nine o’clock, at the Amateur Athletic Sports Club. Play will take place on Friday and Saturday in Easter week.
The regulation as to the winners of the Champion Fours playing the winners of the Subscription Fours for the championship is one to which general exception will be taken, and the sense of having such a rule is difficult to discover. If the Champion Four is beaten it will only go to prove that the selectors did not know their business, and the futility of having any Champion Fours at all will immediately become apparent. One might just as well let the Subscription Fours carry the championship right away without wasting a lot
of time playing championship matches, which do not carry the championship. It is really astonishing what foolish things are done in committee at times, and the A.B.A. is, unfortunately, rather noted in this respect.
The following teams have been picked to represent Mount Eden at the Auckland B.A. Easter tournament: —'Miller, Hudson, Martin, Rankin (skip).; Simpson, Brown, Burns, Mercer (skip). Subscription Fours: Gill, Surman, Young, Hooper (skip). Emergency team: Woolier, Newland, Ross, Brookes (skip). On Saturday a practice match will be played, when Hooper’s team plays Mercer’s, and Brookes’ meets Rankin’s.
