TARANAKI.
NEW PLYMOUTH, December 24
A special committee meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held last week when it was resolved to open the double machine on the Flying and Christmas Handicaps the first day, and on the New Plymouth and Summer Handicap the second day.
Mr Belcher, of Wanganui, was given permiss’on to erect one of his patent hurdles in front of the grandstand for use in the two hurdle races to be run at the meetings. A letter was a'so read o>n the secretary of the Racing Conference with reference to the circulation of petitions protesting against the suppression of the totalisator.
Everything points to the Club’s Christmas Meeting being one of the most successful yet held by the Club. Pangaroa has been performing well on the track recently, but the Seaton Delavel mare refuse to show the same form in public. If caught in a galloping humour she should about win the Christmas Handicap.
J. George’s Cuiras .fier-St. Aida fi’ly is being hacked about prepara.ory to being put into act've work. She is a compact and well built young lady who should give a good account of herself 'ater on. Ghoorka spent a day here when en route to Auckland. The Lochiel horse w asgiven a couple of rounds on the 1 >cal track and created a mos: favourable impression.
Paritutu’s party are fa’rly confident of success in the big race, and I for one v : 11 not be surprised to see the Cas'or gelding returned as the winner of this /ear’s Auckland Cup.
