Sporting & Dramatic REVIEW AND Licensed Victuallers’ Gazette. With which is incorporated, the Weekly Standard. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1906. CHRISTMAS.

The Christmas week always sees Auckland at its very best for the attractions are very numerous. First and foremost there is the great Cup meeting of the Auckland Racing Club on the 26th, 29th inst., Ist and 2nd prox. Then there is the big summer gathering of the Auckland Trotting Club, which takes place on December 27 and 31, and January 5. Both these are the most important meetings of their kind in the North Island, and are sure to attract very large attendances. The water excursions are a special feature of the holidays in i Auckland, and truly the would-be excursionist has the choice of innumerable places to go to. The Northern, Coastal, and Ferry companies will carry thousands of passengers to Waiwera, Mahurangi, Kawau, Home Bay, Cowes, Rangitoto, St. Heliers, Takapuna, and other of the favourite resorts. Heavy train loads of town folk have been leaving during the last few days for Rotorua, Te Aroha, Hamilton, and Cambridge, but their places have been filled by country people who have come into town for the races, and the streets seem unusually full. The theatres will all be doing big business. The BroughFlemming Company will open at His Majesty’s on Boxing night, Fuller’s Entertainers will have a particularly strong bill at the Opera House, Marie Narelle will be singing the songs of Ireland at the Choral Hall, and altogether there will be no lack of amusement provided. To one and all of our readers we wish a Merry Christmas and the best of good times in the coming year.
