TRAINING NOTES.

HASTINGS. NAPIER, September 25. A heavy fog interfered with track work this morning, but did not prevent trainers from being out at an early hour. Boomerang galloped a circuit, being carried along the last six furlongs by Feu-de-Joie, the latter coming home in front. King Billy covered six furlongs in a very taking manner. Mystification was accompanied by Chatterer over six furlongs, the pair finishing side by side. Mungista, who has grown into a fine mare, was also sent over six furlongs. : Operetta sailed over three-quarters of a mile at a fast pace. This little mare is looking in splendid order. Oryx, big and strong, was stretched out over a circuit, performing very satisfactorily.' Linkless sprinted over three furlongs. The Boyne (Merriwee —The Shannon), who has the reputation of being the smartest two-year-old in work here, galloped the Hastings Stakes distance, putting up a creditable performance. Black Reynard, Kaipetipeti, Faro, and Te Arai were each allotted use* ful tasks. Hickey has the quartette in great buckle. Douche was trotted over a couple of circuits. Maid of Astolat, a beautiful filly by Sir Lancelot —Dazzle, executed a pleasing gallop over a round. After breakfast Dan Leno opened proceedings by defeating Hipporofla rather easily over half a mile. The latter had to give away a lot of weight, however. Finery (Birkenhead —Byon) was too slippery for Downfall (San Francisco—Cantatrice) in a trial over half a mile. The gallop was a good one, and Mr. Lowry possesses a very useful pair of two-year-olds, the localbred one being especially smart. Sir Benson, a very much-improved colt, had the advantage of Forest Ranger at the end of half a mile. There was a lump of weight in his favour, but with the colt’s condition he galloped really well. -Cinque and Water o’ Milk were restricted to halfpace work. Pantaloon sprinted half a mile. Polyanthus, Wai-ariki, Mecca, and Waipunehu were associated in a spin over half a mile, the four finishing almost head for head. , i Moriarty (Merriwee —Moira covered three furlongs smartly. ;. :
