Rotherill is by Lord Clifden (winner of the St. Leger) out of the celebrated mare Laura, the dam. of Petrarch (the winner of the English Two Thousand Guineas and St. Leger), and Lord Clifden is by Newminster, also the winner of the English St. Leger. Melton is a great-grandson of Stockwell of the English St. Leger) out of a granddaughter of Thormanby, winner of the English Derby.
