HOCKEY.
The first series of the second round of the senior teams resulted in a win for Auckland A seniors, who beat ’Varsity 4 goals to 2, and a drawn game between United and Auckland B seniors. * * * * For Auckland A Kavanagh, at half, played a. brilliant game, and is quite up to his best form. * * * * Allen, at fullback, played an excellent game, and made few or no mistakes. He is very clever with his stick, and takes a lot of passing. * * * * Jessup played a better game last Saturday than he has done on previous occasions this year. He seems to be recovering his last season’s form. * * * * For University Rands got through an immense amount of work in the forwards, and was well supported by his two outsides. Webster, right outside, showed remarkably good form for a first-year player. * * * * McClure, at fullback, gave an excellent exhibiton of hockey. University, being a man short, only one fullback was played, and McClure’s task of stopping Auckland’s forwards was no light one. His form was quite up to the best shown this season in that position in any of the senior teams. * * * * For United, Barry played his usual heady game, and Hamblin, at outside left, was conspicuous at times. Anderson, at fullback, was always very sure. * * * * For Auckland B, Eastgate, at half, hit well, and, taking his play all round, played a very fair game. Reid is regaining his old form in his position of fullback. * * * * Among the juniors a very good game was witnessed in the College Rifles’ A match, which resulted in a win for the latter by two goals to nil. * * * * For St. George’s, Palmer played an excellent game half, as also did Tattley in the forwards. For College A Sellers was a host in himself, playing a sterling game right through. Hesketh, in the forwards, was responsible for much of the attacking done by his side. ■» * * * University B beat Auckland juniors by 2 goals to 1. For University Scott, in the backs, and Ziman, Taylor and Jacobsen, in the foi wards, were most conspicuous. For Auckland Caro was responsible tor much good work at centre-half. * * * * Kopana beat L.C.R. at Remuera bv 10 points to nil. The L.C.R. played a most determined game during the first half, and looked like making a close game of it, bur. the sinab team collapsed towards the end of the second spell, Kopana scoring their last four goals in a few minutes. * * * * Miss R. Taylor piayed a magnificent game on the wing for Kopana. This young lady is about the best wing playing in the ladies’ association games this season. * * * * Misses Scott and Bagnall played well for Kopana. * * * * The L.C.R. played without combina tion, although there was some fine individual play, most notably Misses I. Dunlop, C. Macklow, and H. Aiderton.
