THE GRAND PRIX DE FARIS.
VICTORY OF THE CARBINE COLT SPEARMINT. The Paris Summer Meeting was held on June 10. The following was the result of the principal event:— THE GRAND PRIX DE PARIS of 200,000 fr. (8000sovs). if the winner is foaled in France the breeder will receive 15,000 fr. (600sovs) in addition; 150,000 fr. (6000sovs) given by the City of Paris, and 50,000 fr. (2000 sovs) by the five great railway companies, added to a sweepstake of IOOOfr. (40sovs) each. The owner of the second to receive 20,000 fr. (800 sovs), and the owner of the third 10,000 fr. (400sovs) out of the stake. For entire colts and fillies foaled in 1903, of every description and country. Weights: Colts. 58 kilos (about 9st 21b); fillies, 56% kilos (about Bst 131 b). About 3000 metres (about one mile and seven furlongs). Major Eustace Loder’s b c Spearmint, by Carbine —Maid of the Mint .. . . . . .. 1 M. ean Joubert’s b c Brisecoeur, by Brio—Christiane . . . . . . 2 M. R. de Monbel’s b c Storm, by ErMak—Stormy Petrel . . 3 Thirteen horses ran. Spearmint won by half a length. Time, 3min 18% sec. The success of Major Loder’s colt was received in a most enthusiastic manner by the French.
