At the Thames the police are decidedly active in the matter of enforcement of the licensing laws, and those found on licensed premises after hours are being v gorously prosecuted. Recently a large number of defendants were before the Court on the charge of being on licensed premises after hours, and were mulcted m penalties of 10s and costs downwards, in some cases the excuses offered by defendants were accepted by the Court. His Worship stated the Act was far-reaching, and in the case of persons found on licensed premises after lawful hours the presumption was that they were there for th purpose of obtaining drink. A charge of perjury against Andrew McLeod was adjourned.
