Gunnists are beginning to look forward t > the shooting season again, and from reports that have reached us from outside prospects are fairly bright. Ducks, as usual, seem to form a large part of the available game. They seem plentiful enough, in spite of the wanton slaughter that many pot-hunters indulged in last season. Happily, the scene of last year’s carnage has been closed for shooting, so that the plucky birds will have a sanctuary in future. All true sportsmen will commend the policy adopted by the Acclimatisation Society in this matter. Pheasants are unfortunately still retreating into the back country, and each season sees less of these lordly game birds. Californian quail are also disappearing in many localities, though we hear of some places where they are more numerous than usual. In the meantime, thoughts are turning to dog and gun in pleasurable anticipation.
