TROTTING.

OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING.

The Otahuhu Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting was concluded yesterday, after having been postponed from last Saturday through bad weather. The weather on Wednesday, however, was perfect, and there was a good attendance at the function. Good fields were the order of the day, no less than 14 horses going out for the President’s Trot, which was won rather easily by Red Wilkes, Cleveland’s Pride gaining second place by a short head. There were no scratchings in the Pony Trot. Seacole, after leading for most of the way, had to give way in the latter stages of the race to Special Light. Six ponies saddled up for the Welcome Stakes, and after an interesting struggle down the straight. Mataura beat the favourite, Forth, with Solitary well up in third position. Only one horse declined his engagement in the Criterion Trot, the limit mare, Happy, leading all the way, winning easily from K.D. The Papatoetoe Trot brought out afield of six, Taihoa being favourite, but trotting unkindly, he could only finish third to Colenso and Miss Huon, who both trotted evenly. Mint was installed favourite in the February Trot, and the confidence was not misplaced, the mare trotting splendidly throughout, and won pulling up. Nine ponies went to the post for the Manukau Handicap, Orange and Blue carrying most money. An indifferent •tart robbed the race of any interest the favourite hopping out, and was never headed, being followed home by Merry Delaval and Rapid in the order named. The last race of the day, the Dash Trot, brought out a field of ten, Monica being favourite. The race looked at her mercy until the top turn was reached, when she broke, and Taihoa taking the lead, won by two lengths from George, who made up a lot of ground in the straight.
