Playfair gave a fine exhibition or jumping, and after leading over the ax ier.ee had too much pace for Agitator, beating him by three lengths. Newtown was sent out favourite for the Jumpers’ Flat Handicap, and he was among the first three from the time the barrier went up, and holding his own all the way down the straight, easily stalled off a challenge by Tupara, and beat him by a length, Cavalry being two lengths away third just in front of Hydrant, The Mohican, and Trumpery. The Enfield Steeplechasep reduced a chapter - of accidents, the three bestbacked horses in the race, viz., Lurcher, Defoe and Narcissus, coming to grief at the Kennels double. Kohatu was right up among the leaders when he came down, and he was left with a substantial lead, eventually winning by six lengths from Noxious Weed. Jolly Friar was prominent from the start in the Hack Handicap, easily beating Stepaside at the finish, the muchboomed Flying Spark being third.
