GISBORNE RACING CLUB’S STEEPLECHASE MEETING.

FIRST DAY. Beautiful weather prevailed for the first day of the above club’s Steeplechase meeting. The sum of £4116 was passed through the totalisator. The following were the results; — First Handicap Hurdles; two miles.—lnspan 1: Roseplot2; Vivacity 3. Scratched: Ludo, Minerve and Morehu. Won by four lengths. Time, Smin 59 3-sth sec. Dividends, £llss and £1 3s. Maiden Scurry ; five furlongs.—Luck’s All 1; Paremata 2; Melton Hall 3. Ten others started. Dividends, £2 13 and £1 9s. Flying Handicap; six furlongs.—Ladylike 1; Barilla 2; Manawaru 3. Scratched: Motor, Casino, Anxiety, TTiki and Spryshot. Won by a length and a-half. lime, min 18 2-sth sec. Dividends. £lB 15s and £1 ss. Gisborne Park Steeplechase; about three miles. — Local Option 1; Jack o’-Lantern 2; Sergeant-Major 3. The only starters. It was an exciting finish. Won by half-a-length. Time, 6min 47sec. Dividend, £2lls. Hack Flat ; seven furlongs. Reay 1; Casino 2. Bruiser 3. Scratched: Melton Hall, Paremata, Gold Shot and Te Uku. Won by a head. Time, Imin 85 l-sth sec. Dividends, £lBl4s and £slos. Hack Steeplechase ; two miles. - Great Scott 1; Teha 2. Other starters—Morehu and Black Diamond. Won easily. Time, 4min 12 l-sth sec. Dividend, £ll7s Winter Oats; one mile and a distance. Minerve and Faro a dead heat; Inspan 3. Other starters—Manawaru, Te Uku and Hauiti. An exciting finish. Dividends, £2 on Minerve, and £8 2s on Faro. SECOND DAY. The weather was fine and the attendance large for the second day’s racing, ihe sum of £43.5 was passed through the totalisator, making £B4Bl for the meeting, which was over £lOOO in excess of last year’s meeting. The following were the results :— Second Handicap Hurdles; one mile and threequarters — Roseplot 1, Inspan 2, Minerve 3. Other starters—Borax and Whitirea. Won by a length. Time, 3min 28 2-sth sec. Dividends, £2 9s and Ils. Maiden Scurry ; six furlongs.—Motokehu 1, Melton Hall 2, Flume 3. Other starters Artilleryman, A.L.F., and Comedy. Won by two lengths. Time, Imin 22 2-sth see. Dividends, £2 2s and 13s. Waikanae Handicap ; seven furlongs.—Ladylike 1, Will-o’ the-Wisp 2, Manawaru 3. Other starters— Tukapi, Sarilla, < asino, and Woodfield. Time, Imin 34sec.
