TROTTING.

AUCKLAND TROTTING'CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETINGTHIRD DAY. The Autumn .Meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club was brought to a conclusion at the Takapuna racecourse on Saturday. Once again the weather proved beautifully fine, and the club must be deemed exceedingly fortunate in getting three such days at this time of the year. The sum of £2021 was put through the totalisator, making a total of £5397 for the meeting, a decrease of £l9l 10s on the corresponding fixture last year. The sport, which was chiefly remarkable for the consistent defeat of the favourites in the trotting events, proved interesting, and the arrangements were well carried out, everything passing off without a hitch. Proceedings opened with the Trial Trot, one and a-half miles, for which Miss Victor 11. was made a red-hot favourite in a field of ten. Lance and Specialite made most of the running, with the favourite coming fast from scratch. Miss Victor broke badly, however, when nearing home and Specialite, who was quite an outsider, trotting in good style, won by fifty yards from the favourite, with Tataraimaka third. For the Campbell Handicap, two miles, there were nine starters, Little Doctor carrying £1 more investment than Young McKinney- After Miss Huon and Bell Car had shown the way for a bit Harold Abdallah got by and won by fifteen yards from Kingston, who was thirty yards in front of the favourite. Sally Horner had a trifle more invested on her than any of the six runners in the Park Handicap, six and a-half furlongs. The start was a poor one, the second favourite Annoyed being virtually left. Forth led to the straight, where Annoyed took up the running, but the effort told, and Sally Horner finishing very fast beat the Regel mare home by nearly a length. In the Ladies" Bracelet, one and a-half miles, Cleveland’s Pride and Specialite received the most support, but both broke, the former badly. Fibre and Bell Car virtually had the race to themselves, the former winning by thirty yards, with Specialite a good third. For the Innovation Trot, one mile, Little Billy and Miss Dunmore were thought to possess the best chance, but neither was able to get a place. Bazaine led all the way, and fairly romped home by himself fifty yards ahead of The Mooress, with Macquarrie a good third. The High-Class Trot, one mile, followed, this bringing out a field of six. Taihoa found most supporters, with Rosebud in good demand. The Mooress showed the way, with Taihoa closing up fast. The latter broke badly, this Jetting up Little Doctor and Rosebud. This pair went in chase of the leader, but failed to reach her, ’The Mooress winning by fouryards from Little Doctor, with Rosebud a fair third. There were nine runners in the Barn Handicap, five furlongs, for which a. pronounced favourite was forthcoming in Inspiration, while plenty of tickets went on Lady French. After some delay the favourite jumped away very smartly, and leading all the way won by a length from Annoyed, who made a gallant effort to catch the Freedom mare in the straight. Solitarv was third.

The American Year Book shows that, while 1904 was not a champion year, it still has a few to its credit. There was no advance in the world’s record, and the five and four-year-old championships. Directum 2.054 still holds the latter from 1893. In the same year Fantasy won the three-year-old championship in 2.083. It still remains, and the 2.10-1 of Arion in 1891 is still unchallenged. Cresceus, shorn of his record of 1.59.7, still retains the stallion championship with his record of 2.024. The championships to the credit of 1904 are as follows Dan Patch cut. the pacing record to 1.56 ; Angus Pointer, the pacing waggon race record to 1.044; Charley Mac to saddle put the record at 2.144, while The ' Monk and Equity nlaced the trotting record fcr teams at 2.073.

The greatest performance registered at the Addington grounds last week was certainly that of Sal Tasker in the Juvenile Stakes (says the “Weekly Press”). Yet all her owner received was £53 as stake money. It will be passing strange if Sal Tasker and Lord Elmo do not get down to Ribbonwood’s record of 2.9 before their racing careers are closed.
