The Otahuhu -Trotting Club’s Summer Meetitoig [is| 'drawing (on apace, and on Saturday week reinsmen will be assembling at Alexandra Park to witness rhe sport. Acceptances for the various events close with Mr Yonge to-morrow evening. It is understood that before long a number of improvements will be effected at Alexandra Park, which will have the effect of bringing it thoroughly up-to-date. A lawn in front of/ the stand is projected, and if this' is done an alteration to the course will be necessary. '1 he improvements will tend to greatly popudfairisei the Pajjrk, as at present the enclosure is often in too congested a state. * • 0 The New Zealand Metropolitan Club s Autumn Meeting will take place on February 16 and 18. An American exchange reckons that the trotting enthusiast, Mr C. K. G. Billings, has more than £60,000 invested in fine horseflesh, the cost of maintaining these horses is placed at £20,000 a year. His great fortune, left by his father was made in the Chicago gas companies consolidation. « • • • Dan Patch, the king of the pacers, received a royal v elcome back to Minneapolis the other clay. Led by a band and followed by at least two thousand horse enthusiasts, Dan marched from his car at the Union Station to his winter quarters at the residence of his owner, M. W. Savage. He will be taken to the rig farm in the Minnesota Valley about February 1 (says the “Breeder and Sportsman.’’) Despite the mid-season illness which/ came so near- ending his life, Dan Patch came back to Minneapolis with two new world’s records to his credit. At Memphis he negotiated the mile in 1:,56 flat, clipping one-quarter of a second off his previous mark. At Oklahoma City he went the mile out in 2:03, a world’s record for a half-mile track.
