AQUATICS.

(By “ The Reefer.”)

Matters are shaping favourably for the Anniversary Regatta, and it looks as though this old-established fixture will be a great success. The Huddart, Parker liner Victoria has been secured as flagship, and Captain Mailers fine ship should prove very suitable for the purpose.

The programme of the Auckland Regatta shows twenty events, which should give rise to some good sport. Especially is this the case in the sailing races if the handicaps are well arranged. What is wanted is a fine day to ensure a success.

Intending competitors should bear in mind that entries for the second cruising race of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron close with Mr Cole, at the squadron rooms this (Thursday) afternoon, at 2 p.m.

Dr. Maitland, late captain of the Auckland Rowing Club, left for Sydneyon Monday on a round-the-world trip. He will be away from Auckland for twelve months. The popular oarsman and polo player got a big send-off at the club on Saturday night, when things went very

merrily.

The West End Rowing Club will hold trial fours next Saturday for trophies presented by Mr Murdoch McLean, the president of the club.

Entries for the Huntly Regatta close with Mr J. Thomson at the Sports Club on Saturday next.

Members of the North Shore Yacht Club will hold their annual picnic on Saturday at Kohimarama. This is always a popular fixture with the Shore folk, and is sure to be well attended.

The North Shore Yacht Club sailed the second series of races on the programme last Saturday. Tn the race for yachts not exceeding 27ft l.w.L Wairiki, scratch, won from Janet, Gmin, rather easily. Okere won the event for Tuck-stern yachts over 22ft, Emerald filling second position. A similar event for yachts under 22ft fell to Mowai, with Freak in second berth. In the race for yachts not exceeding 26ft V aldora and M aitangi were the first two to finish, while Dottrel won the I’atiki race from M'areho.

C. Basley, Laurie, Finn, and E. Stone (stroke) won the fours on Saturday for Vice-Commodore F. W. Gordon’s trophies. The afternoon proved very enjoyable, a very large number of visitors being present at the St. George s R.C. “ At Home.”

Takapuna Beach was the scene of a picnic outing given by the North Shore Yacht Club on Saturday. A Fours Race for Vice-President Pickering’s trophies was won by Gribble, Harrison, Smith, and Yeoland (stroke). During the afternoon Dick Cavill gave ? n exhibition of diving and fancy swimming.

The race in Port Jackson for the Carleton Cup for yachts of ten. ons and upwards was won rather easily by the Bailey built cutter Bona, which proved too good for her two rivals, Oithona and Electra.

The fourth race of the Manukau Yacht Club took place on Saturday, and as usual there was no dearth of •ompetitors, there being fifteen entries. The race fell to Spray, 39min, with May Bee, 30min, in second place, and Maka Maile, Bmin, third. That the new Logan patiki Ngaroma is highly thought of is evidenced from the fact that she was handicapped to concede starts up to 96 minutes.
