Austerlitz proved too fast for Kamo in a ding-dong go for six furlongs run in lmin 21sec (the best of the morning). Haydn, looking well, did two circuits at half-pace. The favourite for the National looks well. J ewellery did a couple of rounds on the tan at three-quarter pace. Vai Rosa, Waikato, Roseshield, Mauku and others did light tasks. After breakfast the pony Rapid got to the end of five furlongs in the good time of lmin Bsec.

Geologist (with Taylor up) did a useful five furlongs Hutter. Cordon Rouge, who is now in Koss Heaton’s stable, sprinted three furlongs, but pulled up very lame afterwards. Inspiration seemed to hold Manoeuvre safe as they skipped five furlongs in J min sec. Sonoma easily defeated Jean over the same distance with half a second to her credit. Ihe maiden hurdler Revealer beat Gilead in a four furlongs g-o in 56sec. 1 apatu easily accounted for Hippowai in 2min In the afternoon quite a number of people rolled up expecting to see some jumping, nor were they disappointed, for shortly after 2.30 Haydn and Dingo ran once round the Steeplechase course, both jumping splendidly. The round took 2min 52£sec. Haydn finished in front. Tahae, Ake Ake and old Mars schooled over the hurdles on the course proper, finishing in the above order, the seventeen furlongs taking 4min 17sec. Mars ran round one hurdle. Revealer, for the second time (having run four furlongs after breakfast), came out and easily settled The Needle over the one and a-half mile course over the hurdles, the last round taking 2min 22sec. Mr Hill, the caretaker at Ellerslie, has a staff of men top-dressing the course proper. It should be in tip-top order by the time June rolls round TUESDAY. Lady Annie took lmin 52sec to do the same distance on the course proper. Delania finished in front of Austerlitz and Kamo in a fast run six furlono-s in lmin 20 4-ssec. Idasa lelt the mile behind on the course proper in -lmin 49 l-ssec. Dolores took lmin 55sec to get the same journey. Newtown finished resolutely, beating Lady Hune over a seven furlongs course. The first nine furlongs took 2min Mars ran a short mile with Hinekoa in lmin 41£sec, the first six furlongs taking lmin 16 l-ssec. There is life in the old boy yet. Fashionable assisted the pair in the last four furlongs in 55sec, moving nicely. Cavalry and Lady Bell jumped the schooling hurdles. The former got rid of his jockey atthe second hurdle, but was remounted and jumped the rest of the obstacles well. The rest of the horses to do from half to three-quarter pace were : Roseshield, Waikato, Cannongate, Vai Rosa, Lady Raven, Maine, J ewellery, Annoyed, Garnaut, Rapid, Bishop, Maungamahake, Geologist, Soultfish, Dingo, Bonheur, Kohima, and a number of others. At 2.30 there were about 200 people present to see the jumping. The first to put in an appearance was Up-to-Date, Spalpeen and Morpeth. They jumped off from the two miles post, but at the third hurdle Spalpeen came to grief, falling heavily, but Frank Burns rose none the worse for his tumble, and almost immediately mounted and continued on alone. By this time Up-to-Date had run out the two miles, pulling up in 4min 6-Jsec. Mr and Mrs Lenard Marshall were amongst those present to see their horse perform. . Papatu and Crespin then negotiated the big country, both horses jumping cleverly and finishing together. The former seemed to hold Crespin at the finish. The once round occupied 2min 57sec. Ngaru (Mr H. Cotter’s hunter), Kaikino and Flower of Gold also jumped the big country, finishing in the above order. The trio only made one mistake, when they ran off the old water jump.
