TRAINING NOTES.

ELLEBSLIE. SATURDAY. Saturday morning being fine the gates at Ellerslie racecourse opened punctually at 4.30 a.m. and a lot of useful work was got through. The first to start operations was the two-year-old Promotion, who ran a taking five furlongs on the grass in Imin 3 l-ssec. Kamo did a similar task in Imin Ropa, Torchon and Cyrus then negotiated nine furlongs on the grass, finishing in imin 59sec. Golden Rose, assisted by Dolores in the last mile, ran a short one and a-half miles on the grasd in 2min 41sec (with something in hand). Putty ran a taking thirteen furlongs, with Numa for a companion the first one and a-quarter miles, the former finishing strongly. Jewellery, with Khama for a mate, ran the last nine furlongs of twelve in 2min 3 l-ssec, not finishing too well. Avalanche ran seven furlongs at her best pace, assisted by the two-year-old Methuma over the last four furlongs, which took 54sec.

Marshall Soult ran a short six furlongs on the grass in Imin 15 4-ssec. The two-year-old Romola sprinted four furlongs, moving freely. Tauhei did a useful twice round on the sand with Mark Ryan in the saddle. Bobs and another spurted over five furlongs in Imin 5 2-ssec. The Middy bolted from the pony Lottie fa a five furlongs flutter, taking Imin Bsec to negotiate the distance. Petrovna did gentle exercise. The Steeplechaser Pipi did two useful rounds alone on the grass.

Jack Brown took 2min 3 4-ssec to get round the sand track. S eatonia fluttered over five furlongs alone. This mare is quickly coming into form.

After breakfast Thorpe’s team of two-year-olds, Kilmarnock, Gladstone and another, spurted a few furlongs, moving freely. Hohoro ran six furlongs short in imin sec. This horse should be very fit on the 26 th December.

Sally Horner ran a fast four furlongs in 50 4-ssec.

Tip beat Gatelock by a furlong in a once round over the schooling hurdles. The latter gave Stewart a nasty fall at the hurdle opposite the Grandstand, jumping the side railing instead of the hurdle. Love Link was too fast for Tresham and another in a four furlongs sprint.

Lin gar d was much too good for his two companions, Native Rose and Haydn, over nine furlongs run at a solid pace. Waipuna ran away from Rambler in a four furlongs flutter on the grass.

General Symons cantered and trotted twice round on the grass, and stopped occasionally to kick and buck. Scotty, looking blooming, spurted four furlongs alone.

Mars and The Needle were too fast for Hipstone in a once round on the tan, the two ancient ones finishing together. The following horses did useful work on the various tracks :—Conclusion, Waikato (late Porangi), Delania, Marine, Bonhuer, Crecy, Uo-to-Date, Cygnet, Annoyed, Rufus, Elgin, Eureka, Merry Soult, Girton Girl, Maro, Irish, Coronation, Golden Sands, Maroon and Gold, Te Aroha, Cordon Rouge, Lady Bobs), Idassa, Simple Simon, and the Bill of Portland filly. TUESDAY. Mr Cutts was the early bird this morning and had his team on the course sharp at 4;30 a.m., the first to work being Treadmill, who did two circuits on the tan at three-quarter pace. The two-year-old Promotion then galloped five furlongs on the grass in Imin ssec. Brave Heart, Golden Vein and Quarryman only did medium pace work separately. Jewellery ran one mile and three furlongs alone in 2min 30sec.

Coronation ran one mile in imin 55sec. Lady Annie did a circuit on the grass at her best pace. Francis Lovejoy did the best round of the morning on the grass in Imin 57 4-ssec.

Windwhistle only did medium pace work.

Newtown and Lady Hune ran nine furlongs in 2min Maro, with a light boy in the saddle, ran seven furlongs at three-quarter pace.. Kamo fluttered over five furlongs in imin ssec.

Golden Rose did two rounds on the tan at half-pace, moving freely. Waikato (late Porangi) did a useful six furlongs gallop. Vai Rosa and Cyrus started off for a nine furlong flutter, but the latter stuck his toes in and refused to be coaxed or driven.

Putty ran eleven furlongs on the grass, assisted the first part by Numa and brought home the last four furlongs with Conclusion. The first round took Imin The Steeplechaser Pipi did two good solid rounds on the sand track. This horse looks exceptionally well. General Symons, Ropa and Torchon were associated together for a round on the grass. The visitor moved along freely and Seemed to hold his companions at the finish. Dolores was no use to the pony Avalanche in a fast seven furlongs run in imin 32Asec.

Idas did two rounds by herself (not out for making time) and " pulled up quite sound.

The jumpers Major and Up-tq-Date strode over a couple of rounds, finishing together. Marshall Soult skipped over seven furlongs with a companion, doing the last four furlongs short in 50-Jsec. Count of Kolmar spurted a few furlongs alone moving nicely. Mars and The Needle worked together. Both veterans look well.

Bonomiana led St. Olga for four furlongs, but was no use at the end of seven furlongs. Cavalry cleared out from Tauhei at the end of nine furlongs, but the latter was giving a lot of weight away. Dingo, looking very fit, galloped two good rounds on the sand track. The following horses also did from medium to three-quarter pace work on the various traeks.

The Middy, Geologist, Machine GunJPetrovna, Silkworm, Hipstone, Gladsome, Waipuna, Rambler, Cygnet, Girton Girl, Lovelink.

After breakfast there was a perfect deluge of rain, and very little work took place.
