While racing on the English turf Phoebus Apollo won several good races. At three years od he won the Chesterfield Cup at Goodwood, and ran a dead heat for first honours in the Durdans Plate at Epsom. At four years old he won the Alexandra Plate of 1000 sovs at Doncaster, and the Great Midlands Handicap of 1,300 sovs at Birmingham. At five years old he scored in the Nottingham Handicap of 500 sovs, and ran a dead heat for first honours in the Norfolk and Suffolk Handicap at Great Yarmouth. At six years old he dead- heated with Merry Methodist for the Middlesex Handicap at Alexandra Park, and at Derby he ran second for the Pevenl of the Peak Handicap of 10C0 sovs. The stock sired by Phoebus Apollo in his first two seasons are of an exceedingly promising character, showing plenty of size and power, combined with a great dash of quality.® TERMS : 30 Guineas for Single Mares ; 25 guineas for two or more mares belonging to the same owner. BLUEJACKET, By St. Leger (imp.), dam Antelope, by Apremont (imp.), from Miss Kate (imp.) by Adventurer from Sporting Life, by Prime Minister from Candlewick, by the Prime Warden. Bluejacket by his deeds on the Turf proved himself the best son of that champion sire St. Legei, winning the Great Northern Derby, Auckland Cup twice, and other races, winning £3 565 in stakes. In colour Bluejacket is a good brown, and is one of the stout, muscular sort, showing plenty of quality, and has a cast-iron constitution and fine temper. He was undoubtedly an out-and-out stayer—a characteristic of the great line from which he descends. Pocahontas, a corner-stone of the Stud Book, and dam of the Emperor of' Sires, Stockwell, coming in in his pedigree on both sides.
