HOCKEY.
A lot of interest was taken in the match on Saturday morning between Auckland’s' crack ladies’ team, the Wapiti Hockey Club, and the Paeroa representatives. It was played at Buckland’s paddock, Ep- 1 som. To my mind the honours of the match, although it ended in a draw, were with the visitors, for despite the fact that they had spent a most uncomfortable night on a steamer they played up in great style, being considerably faster than the Auckland eleven. Too much credit cannot be given to the country ladies for their really brilliant performance in playing such a fast and even game with . so strong a side as the Wapiti Club put into the field. No goals were scored during the match, which was keenly contested throughout. The Wapiti Club entertained the visitors at luncheon after the match, and then both teams witnessed the match between Auckland and Waihi, but the persistent rain quite spoilt the pleasure of this. In the evening there was a very cheerful theatre party, all the visitors expressing themselves as being greatly pleased with their trip to town.
