THE LICENSING ELECTIONS.

The polling for the election of Licensing Committees took place last week, and the results so far as can be ascertained are given below. Th® general interest does not appear to have been very marked except in these districts where prohibition or reduction was carried at the licening poll in November, and the results would seem to indicate that prohibition sentiment has not made any progress outside these localities. In Newtown (Wellington) and Bruce where th® prohibition poll, were declared void the teetotal party made a tremendous rally, while in Wellington, Dunedin, and several other centres th® “ reform ” Candidates were returned. The contest at Auckland was remarkable only for the somewhat impudent candidature of Mr William Richardson, who after putting the Municipality to the exp nee of an election was soundly beaten at the poll:—
