ENGLISH THOROUGHBREDS.
•ft Mr George Shankland, contributor to the “Review” of Anglo-Australian Sporting Notes, under the “ noift-de-plume” of “Vespasian,” begs to draw the attention of New Zealand breeders and racing patrons generally, to the exceptional number of English racing thoroughbreds which are sold off, principally in the autumn and spring, for no fault ” whatever ; but simply to make room for incoming yearlings, and to keep the number of horses in training in aristocratic studs within reasonable limits. Young and good-looking stallions or mares with best English pedigrees behind them, can be bought by the discriminating buyer' at really absurd prices.
Price, indeed, is not a consideration when a palatial stud is reduced, and badly bred horses are unknown in such establishments. The large thoroughbred-rearing establishments in Kentucky, California, etc., etc., U.S.A., are keenly on the alert for English blood, large and satisfied buyers. “Vespasian” invites commissions from New Zealand owners, farmers, etc., for English stallions, brood mares,, animals in training, and yearlings, and by care.ful attention in buying, shipping, and insuring, etc., is confident af giving the utmost satisfaction to New Zealand purchasers. Sires and mares specially selected to “nick” well with New Zealand blood ; or buyers wishes (as to blood etc., required), carried oue to the letter. “Vespasian” will accept, buying commissions for large or small complete studs, or single animals, a to any limit, high or low. Moderate percentage charged. All business transacted through the ( proprietors of “The New Zealand Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic Review,” who will give all possible information, and transmit enquiries and commissions to England. \ I .
