THE ST. SIMON SIRE FOR SYLVIA PARK.
The horse purchased by Mr L. D. Nathan in England for stud purposes at Sylvia Park turns out as anticipated* in our columns of the 23rd inst. to be the four-year-old brown horse bred by our now King of England, and named Fitzsimmons. He is by St. Simon —Merrie Lassie (dam of Fosco, Grig, Jest and many other good winners). He is a fine big horse with good speed, and though he has not many turf successes to his name, comes of a running family, and his dam has never thown a loser The fact of Seaton Delaval having been so successful as a sire was a great inducement to Mr Nathan to make his present purchase, as the cross with the Musket mares must prove, a success, judging by previous experiments. ££The headlines of Fitzsimmons’ pedigree read as follows : — MERRIE LASSIE.
Mr Nathan is to be congratulated on his enter prise in laying out money in hi♦ endeavour to improve the quality of bloodstock in New Zealand, and the career of the new stallion will be watched with interest.
