TRAINNING NOTES

at HASTINGS. NAPIER JUNE HJ Saturday morning being fine a lot of good work was done on the Metropolitan track. Considering the amoumt of rain that has fallen here for the past three weeks the tracks wei e in good order and the grass gallop which was thrown open was also excellent going. Tugela was the first to work. He put in a couple of ■ circuits at half pace. Carnival, Puketoi, Kauri Gum, and Eihaka then

went out in company and jumped the country. They all fenced well, but Kauri Gum showed too much pace for his associates. Following them over the same fences a couple of circuits, were Apremete and Chance, the pair fenced ' well. Next over the same fences and distance were Mercury and Held Marshal, the last named came down at the post and rail f nee but was again mounted and went on all right. Morag and Roller went over the country covering a couple of miles at a good strong pace both jumping faultlessly. On the flat Cora Linn and Bon tie Dean, two Bracelet candidates, galloped one and a half miles with light weights up and finished together. The Weaver and Sirocco together put in strong work over a couple of rounds both horses looking well. Daphne did a like task over the same distance. This good old battler seems in great heart* Ruamahaunga put in a couple of circuits at half pace. A number of others did good work on the flat. Hilda 11. and Halcyon were sent over the big fences, but Halcyon fell at the gorse fence. He was again mounted and fell at the next fence, the first fence of the double. The former who is a half-sister to Scallywag went on and jumped well. Lobelia and Cossack jumped six hurdles both jumping satisfactorily and finishing together. Both are looking well. Woodlander and Waiau also jumped six hurdles, the first named having the best of the go., Sylvanus on his own jumped the country putting in a couple of rounds. Tally-ho did a similar task and jumped strongly. Tatarsmo* did useful work on the flat. Bush Rose has' been galloping on the Napier Park track. Pistol Grip, Techa, Tirea, Murmur, Pinepinetakura, and Christmas have also been performing well on the same ground.

June 12th. This morning K Jam was the first to start. He put in a couple of circuits at half and threequarter pace. Blackberry (J. Redmond) and Tatar amoa (J. Mitchell) were sent together for & couple of circuits over the schooling fences ; they pleased the onlookers, jumping faultlessly. They are both in pretty good form. Kauri ( Gum (Baynor) and Chance (T. Connop) did a like task. ‘ Chance threw out at the sod wall, but went on afterwards, fencing beautifully. This was all the jumping. Cora Linn and Bonnie Dean galloped together over about one and a-quarter miles. They both had light weights up, and galloped very well indeed ; they finished together. They are in the Bracelet, and they will take some beating. It is likely that Mr Harley will ride the first named. Coeur de Lion and Mystify galloped once round together. The Dreadnought horse had the best of the duel. He is looking very well, although on the big side. The Weaver, Sirocco and Donovan galloped together once round. They arr eall very well. The first-named had the best of it, Donovan was some distance away last Daphne also galloped one circuit. This mare is looking really well and she finished Up strongly this morning. Blank and WaihQU were tried together over one and a-quarter miles, the former having, all the best of the dispute., The following horses did slow workSylvanus, Ruamahunga, Apremete, Tugela, Halcyone, Mercury, Carnival, Ruby, Tally-ho, Puketoi, Coolgardie and The Miner. Christmas pulled up sore this morning after doing a gallop at Napier Park
