THE TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held in the Farmers’ Club on Friday, May 18. Present : —Messrs O. Samuel (Chairman), J. Paul, W. L. Newman, G. J. Newman, N. King, Ab. Goldwater, F. Watson, J. Ellis, A. E. A. Clarke, T. S. Weston, W. D. Webster, E. R. A. Haworth, It. D. Westmacott, D. Wood, M. Mills, R Sole, E. J. Allen, A. F. Thomson and Stanford. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs A Standirh (President) and L. W. Alexander. The balance-sheet, as read, showed the profit and loss account at the end of the financial year in ere lit £795 8s 3d, as against £943 4s Id for the previous year, leaving a nett loss for the season 1899—190 C of £147 15s. Included in tne latter amount is £BO written off for bad debts, and there was also an increase in tbe stakes offered. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr A. Standish ; VicePresident, Mr W. Bayly ; Treasurer, Mr A. E. A. Clarke ; Stewards, Messrs O. Samuel, J. Paul, T. S. Weston, L. W. Alexander, G. J Newman, W. L. Newman, T Elliot, A. McL. Thompson, R. Cock, J. W. Atkinson, D. Wood, N. King; Committee, Messrs O. Samuel, J. Paul, W. L. Newman, N. King, R. Cock, J. Edis, F Watson, C. M. Lepper, A E. A. Clarke, L. W. Alexander, F. W. Atkinson, D. Teed, sen , A. Goldwater ; Auditors, Messrs Newman and l.llis ; Judge, Mr Haworth ; Clerk of the Scales, Mr Goldwater. The advisability of holding a steep echare meeting during the winter next year was suggested. —The waste ■ was left in the hands of the Committee Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing officers, and to Messrs 0, Chavannes and Budge (starters). It was decided to carry out certain repairs to the grandstand. The cost, it is estimated, will be between £l2O and £l5O. At a Committee meeting Mr O. Samuel was reelected Chairman.
