Draw for the championship contests. First Bound. June 2—Grey Lynn v North Shore, Ponsonby v Parnell, Grafton v Suburbs. June 9 —Ponsonby v Suburbs, Grafton v Grey Lynn, Parnell v North Shore. June 16—Grafton v North Shore, Parnell v Suburbs, Ponsonby v Grey Lynn. June 23—Grey Lynn v Suburbs, Ponsonby v North Shore, Grafton v Parnell. June 30—Ponsonby v Grafton Grey Lynn v Parnell, North Shore v Suburbs. The second round will commence July 7, and the third on August 11.
The Domain Cricket Ground was occupied on Saturday afternoon by the different clubs practising. Parnell and Grafton met North Shore and Grey Lynn combined, and Ponsonby ret Suburbs in a friendly game. The latter match was by far the most interesting to watch. Ponsonby won by 10 goals (B. Noton 8, H. McCoy 1, and J. B. Lundon 1) to 3. (Walker 1, Herrold 1, Rendall 1). The blue and blacks on Saturday’s form appear to have a strong team, but they lack combination. N. Somerfield played a good game for Suburbs, especially as Saturdav afternoon’s display was only his second attempt. Rendall is improving every week. Morrin, Herrold, and Walker work like clock work attacking. Thomson (goalkeeper) plays all right, providing he is backed up by Point and Cover. S. White took a spell at
third man in the second half of the game, and performed very creditably. J. Cooper knows how to check his man, but has got no pace. J Lundon plays with plenty of dash, but does not feed his Home as he should do. Ross, Gallagher, and the two Masons are improving in their play all round.
Parnell and Grafton beat Grey Lynn and North Shore by 10 goals to 2. Challis, Graham, Wilson, and Ashton were the scorers for the winners, and S. Walker and E. Tazard got one each for the other side.
I hear Parnell will have the help of E. J. Fenn next week. He has been detained down South.
H. Cunliffe shaped very nicely at left defence, his club (Parnell) will be greatly strengthened by his inclusion. He is an ex Manchester player. Moore-Jones gives much promise.
Stewart at coverpoint is the makings of a good man, but should learn to keep in his place more. Running all over the field is not the game for a defender.
Graham plays a first-class game at right attack. Wilson, Ashton, and Reid keep up their reputation. J. Warnock played for the first time thio season, and showed he has forgotten none of his last year’s cleverness. Arrangements have been completed to supply lady patrons with afternoon tea throughout the season
“ Canadia,” in the Adelaide Observer, congratulates the local association on the successful manner in which the district scheme has been introduced. He also refers to the Referees* Association. They are trying to bring the district ~ scheme in force over in Adelaide, and hope to do so next season.
The secretary of the Association notifies that the dressing rooms at the Domain will be closed every Saturday at 2.45 p.m., so as to enable the matches to be started punctually to time.
