THE THAMES JOCKEY CLUB.
The annual meeting of members of the Thames Jockey Club -was held on Monday evening, when the chairman of the committee, Mr E. McDonnell, presided. The report submitted was not as cheerful as in former years, and set forth that the financial result of the last summer meeting was not so good as that of the previous year, this being on account of the inclement weather experienced, which had the effect of greatly reducing the receipts of the totalisator, which amounted to £476 14s, or £176 Os 6d less than those of the previous year. The year was commenced with a debit balance of £l7 7s 2s, and closed with an overdraft of £lB5 14s lid, whith debt had been chiefly caused through the large amount spent on course improvements.
The meeting held in honor of the Governor’s visit to Thames, in March last, just paid for itself. An effort was being made to get an extra permit this year for a meeting to be held on the first Monday in March next, but so far the effort had been unsuccessful. Both the report and balancesheet were adopted, the latter showing the total receipts to have been £1672 17s 6d, and the expenditure £lB5B 12s sd. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year:— President, Mr J. McGowan, M.H.R.; yiee-president, Mr Alfred Smith ; treasurer, Mr 0. J. Winder ; judge, Mr W. Burton ; handicapper, Mr W. Knight; clerk of scales, Mr W. Taylor; assistant ditto, Mr E. J. Milnes; secretary, Mr W. H. Potts ; auditor, Mr S. Carter ; starter, Mr C. Short; clerk of course, Mr James Loughlin. The following were elected members of the committee, in place of those retiring : —-Messrs E. McDonnell, Winder, Short, Burch, H. Koeford, and W. Taylor; chairman
of committee, Mr McDonnell; stewards, Messrs McDonnell, Winder, Greenslade, Burch, Bruce, ®nd Koeford. It was decided to nominate Messrs Herries and Alison as representatives of country clubs on the metropolitan committee.
