IMPROVEMENTS AT THE HUTT COURSE.

The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club have decided on a number of improvements at the Hutt course which will be greatly appreciated by the officials and the public. The grand-stand building is to be lengthened at the eastern end

40ft. (with a corresponding length of terrace and' sloping lawn), which will provide additional seating for about 300 people and accommodation for a similar extra number on the top of the building. It will also increase the s ze of the luncheon room in the basement. It has also been decided toerect an addition at the back of the present building the full length of the extended structure, so as to provide for a publican’s booth, a stewards* luncheon room, and a kitchen, scullery, and pantry. The gentlemen’s cloak room, lavatory, and latrines are to be removed to the rear of the grand-stand. The jockeys’ room is to be shifted to the northern side of the saddling paddock, and will be fitted up as a telegraph office. A building is to be erected for a -ladies’ cloak-room, and alongside it there will be a tea pavilion, with a kitchen and pantry attached. The roof of the stewards’ stand will be raised so as to enable another story to be added, and the enlarged building will be divided as follows : —Ground floor : Weighing room, secretary’s office and jockeys’ room. Upper floor : Stewards’ room and a room for the press representatives. In front of the same building there will be a covered-in balcony and verandah thefull length of the structure, and the upper part of the building will serve as a stand for the jockeys and trainers. The work of removing the gentlemen’s cloak-room and latrines and jockeys’ room, and erecting ladies’ cloak room and kitchen will be put in hand at once, so that the premises may be ready for occupation at the winter meeting meeting in July. Plans and specifications of the other proposed improvements are to be prepared without delay. Mr W. O. Chatfield, architect, is to be entrusted with the carrving out cf the whole of the work.
