Our Illustrations

On the theatrical page this week there will be found a picture of Miss Daisy Davis the young artiste who has lately joined the ranks of Pollard’s Opera Company. Miss Davis, like the majority of the Company, is a native of New Zealand. She was born in Christchurch, where her father Mr David Davis was a well-known merchant. Miss Davis received her musical education in Sydney, and gained her stage experience with “ the Firm’s” Royal Comic Opera Company. The young lady has a splendid stage appearance, and is the possessor of a highly cultivated soprano voice of exceptional range and sweetness. Miss Davis has received the highest praise from Sydney critics. She will make her first appearance before an Auckland audience in Von Suppe’s charming work “Boccaccio,” and later on will play the part of O Mimosa San in “ The Geisha.” We reproduce a picture of Mr Charles Voss, a well-known and popular Australian actor, who has made a specially successful study of the part of John Stofel in “ Struck Oil.” Mr Voss is at present following his profession of engraver and designer at Wanganui. Later on he contemplates returning to the stage where he will be welcomed by his numerous friends and admirers. Pressure on our space this week prevents more than passing mention of the pictures of Messrs Carleton and Sutton, the swimming pictures, and the other illustrations appearing in this issue.
