AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

Thibd Day—Thubsday, Aphid 6.

The third day’s racing of the Australian Jockey Club, at Randwick, was well attended and was favored by fine weather. The following are the results: —

The Second Hurdie Bace, a handicap sweepstake of 5 sovs each, with. 200 sovs added; second horse 50 sovs from the stake. About three miles. Mr W Kelso’s br or blk g Mist, syrs, 9.9 ... 1 Mr W. Kelso’s ch g Wongy, 6yrs, 10.0 ... 2 Mr P. Nolan’s b g Ditto, aged, 10.2 ... ... 3

Four other starters. Mist (the favorite) allowed Hinau and Wongy to do nearly all the battling, during which Myrmidon and Wooral came to grief, but, when he was asked to do what was expected of him, the punters’ elect asserted himself and had six lengths to the good at the end of the journey. The Add-aged Stakes, a sweepstake of 10 sovs each, with 400 sovs added; second horse 50 sovs from the stake. Weight-for-age. One mile. Mr G. A real good start was effected, and Hopscotch was the first to break the line, followed by Merloolas, with the others bunched close up. Nearing the turn into the straight Cabin Boy moved to the front and held command up to the St. Leger Stand, where Vigorous and Merloolas shot past him, and a most exciting finish resulted in the Doncaster Handicap winner being only defeated on the post by half a head. After Alemene had flattered herbackers that they had selected the correct pea, she was joined by the Sydney Cup heroine half way down the straight, and that young lady disputed every stride with Mr Oxenham’s mare until they crossed the convincing line, when the judge decided in favor of Diffidence by a neck. Time, 2min The Easteb Stakes, a sweepstake of 10 sovs each, with 300 sovs added; second horse 50 sovs from the stake. For two-year-olds. Colts, 8.7 ; fillies, 8.5; geldings, 8.4. Seven furlongs. Hon. Betting—7 to 4 agst Chesney, 2to 1 Parthian The favorite showed the way for the best part of the journey, but when the whips were brought out a splendid struggle ensued, and the son of Grand Flaneur gained tbe verdict by a head. The Cumberland Stakes, a sweepstake of 10 sovs each, with 400 sovs added; second horse 50 sovs from the stake. Two miles. Mr F. Austin’s b c Lee Metford, by Carbine —Felicitas, 3yrs 1 Mr H. C. White’s b h Clarion, syrs 2 Mr C. Gilbert’s b g Merloolas, aged 3 Other starter —Johansen. Betting —6 to 4 agst Merloolas, 3to 1 Clarion, 10. to 1 Lee-Metford. Lee-Metford was responsible for most of the running, Merloolas displacing him . just before the home turn was reached, but it was only momentarily, as, in reply to his rider’s serious question, the Ballarat colt made another effort in front of the St. Leger Stand, and, stalling off a determined challenge on the part of Clarion, won by half a length, while Merloolas was about the same distance away third. Time, 3min 39|sec. The Welter Handicap, a sweepstake of 5 sovs each, with 200 sovs ad led; second horse 50 sovs from the stake. One mile. Mr C. Jeffries’ b g Tubal Cain, 9.13 ... ... 1 Messrs H. E. Ihe autumn meeting was brought to a close in fine weather, the atteudance being good. Proceedings opened with the Rous Handicap, in which mne horses started. The Rock came with a late run and won by a long neck. Alemene was favorite for the Place Handicap, but Fairy Prince won in the splendid time of 2min 35sec. The Steeplechase was won from end to end by the Auckland-bred horse Mangere, another old Few Zealander, Parnell, filling the second place. The Nursery Handicap resulted in a good finish, Chesney winning by three quarters of a length from Nambucca. Merloolas added one more victory to his credit by appropriating the A. J.O. Plate, of three miles. Watercolor appropriated the Final Handicap, cutting out the distance, one mile and a quarter, in the excellent time of 2min 9|seo. The following are the results
