HOROWHENUA HACK RACING CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING

* The HorowhenUa Hack Racing Club held its first annual meeting on Friday last, and was favored with glorious weather, about 1500 people being present. Some splendid starts were effected by Mr Pringle, and Mr Morse is also to be congratulated on his handicapping, some good finishes being the result. Mr C. K. Wilson, the secretary, is undoubtedly the right man in the right place, and under his management, and assisted by a promising staff, everything worked smoothly. The good dividend of £2O 2s was paid in the Stewards’ Handicap by Naybom, and the stewards deemed fit to hold an enquiry into his running in the Cup Handicap, but after hearing evidence did not disturb the verdict. The going was good and fairly fast times were recorded. The sum of £1896 was put through the machine. After a lot of trouble at the post the field was got away splendidly. Horoeka immediately went to the front, and led by four lengths until entering the straight, when Vinetta, Rudini, and Tutua came through, and a,good race up the straight resulted in a head verdict for Tutua, Rudini a similar distance away third. The field was sent away to a good start, and the horses were bunched together until entering the straight, when Woolloomooloo and Rongotea drew out, and a good race up the straight saw Woolloomooloo win by two lengths, Puanga two lengths away third. Time, 3min 3 4 ssec. Dividend, £2 4s. Hobowhehua Cup Handicap of 50 sovs and trophy; second horse 5 sovs from the stake. One mile and a quarter. 45 Mr C. From a fair start Nayborn and Pastime went to the front, but going out of the straight Nayborn ran wide, and lost a lot of ground and fell back last. Pastime led until entering the straight, when Thrush, Mainboom, Lady Spec, and Stockade collared her, and a good finish resulted in Mainboom winning by a length, a a neck separating second and third, Nayborn close up fourth.
