FIXTURES. - February 18, Sat; 22, Wed; 25, Sat-Otahuhu T.C Summer March 11, Sat; 16, Thurs—Plumpton Park T.C. Autumn ~ March 16, Thurs—Hawi e’s Bay T.C. Autumn HANDICAPS. February 3, 20, and 23—Otahuhu '1 ,C Summer ACCEPTANCES. February 10, 21, and 24—Otahuhu T.C Summer OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING. The following handicaps have been declared for the first day of the above fixture, to be held at Potter’s Paddock on the 18th, 22nd, and 25th of the present month : — Maiden Trot Handicap, one mile and a half.

NOTES. The acceptances for the first day of the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s Meeting are due to-morrow (Friday). The Lancaster Park Trotting Club’s Easter programme provides £l5O more stake money than was portioned at the same meeting last year.

On the whole Mr Halstead’s handicaps seem to be favorable. In the two-mile Harness Handicap four rather well treated are Peril (36sec), Bellman (26sec), Alice (26sec), and Motuiti (24sec). In the Otahuhu Trotting Cup, the big event of the first day, Waitekauri and Uric are on the limit, with Duke C. at scratch. Bellman, Alice, and Wild Rose are all on the 22sec mark, while Peril is again nicely in with 32sec start. 1 he Electric Trot, one mile, is a good handicap’ and Cob (16sec), Claret (128ec), and La Rue (9sec) are not badly placed. It will be time enough to make forecasts of victory next week, when the acceptances are to hand. At any rate good fields should be left in, and given fine weather the sport should be very interesting. The pony races to be run at the Otahuhu Meeting have all attracted big fields, and as the handicaps are equable no doubt the starters will roll up well. It will be remembered that when Motuiti won a race at the Spring meeting of the Lancaster Park T.C. doubts were entertained as to her bona fides. Happily these have been dispelled, and Mr Robertson, the owner of the mare, has at last received the stakes. We wonder does he get three months’ interest for the use of his money ? The Temuka Trotting Club will hold a meeting on April 27, if the necessary totaheator permit can be obtained. The South Island Association has been written to, and as a permit was promised if there was one available, there should be no difficulty about holding the meeting. I see names are wanted for some of the youngsters nominated for the C.T.C. Juvenile Stakes. I will suggest a name for the Ha-Ha —Honeydew filly, Minnehaha. Minnehaha, it will be remembered, was the name of the beloved of the redoubtable Hiawatha, and interpreted from the Red Indian vernacular means “ laughing water.” There is a movement on foot in America to do away with the trotters troubled with the “slows.” This culling process, if ever attempted, would be a prodigious task, and the only thing likely to do any good is a considerably reduced limit. Someof the kind is just as necessary in New Zealand as in America. A big match between John R. Gentry and Joe Patchen is spoken of as one of the chief trotting attractions in New York during the coming sea son. The race will take place at the Goshen Track, which is just half a mile round. John R. Gentry has already paced a mile at Goshen in 2min 6sec, so when the pair meet a great exhibition should be given. That astute judge of a trotter, Mr Jimmy Martin, has purchased the three-year-old Waitekauri, by La Rue, for 80gs. It will be remembered that Waitekauri won the big juvenile race at the A.T.C. Summer Meeting, and in the other four races in which he has trotted he has secured second place. 11 speaks well for La Rue’s future as a sire that his first get should sell so well, and it is to be hoped that Mr W. J. Greenwood may have some more youngsters of the same calibre to dispose of. To-morrow (Friday) the privileges in connection with the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting will be disposed of by Messrs Churton and Co. at the Brunswick Mart. The excellent nominations received by the secretary promise big fields for the various events, and aa the meeting is always well patronised by the public, there should be spirited competition for the various privileges. Yesterday Mr George Cutts was present at Potter’s Paddock measuring ponies for the forthcoming Otahuhu Meeting. He will be there next Wednesday between 2and 4 p.m. on the same purpose. .

In another column appears an advertisement of Dr. L. L. Smith, the well-known medical specialist of Melbourne (Victoria). Dr. Smith has had a long and successful experience, and in his particular line stands pre-eminent. He has studied in England and France, and had the opportunity of passing some time under Dr Brown-Sequard in the Paris Medical Laboratory. He recently paid a visit to New Zealand, making a short stop at Rotorua.
