EAST TAMAKI MEETING.

[By

Atlas.)

The annual East Tamaki Hack Race Meeting was held on Mr A. R. Harris’ farm on Saturday afternoon, and attracted not only a good local < attendance, but also numerous visitors from 7 Auckland. These meetings every year seem to become more popular, probably for the reason that there is much of the picnic nature about the proceedings, and moreover the drive through the green Tamaki. country at this season of the year is truly delightful. It was so on Saturday, and although there was nothing sensational or exciting about the sport during the afternoon, it was of an enjoyable nature, only one thing occurring during the afternoon—that being an accident to My Sweetheart in the last race of the day—to mar the pleasure of the outing. To see Mr Harris in the judge’s box is always a pleasure, but to see him at home enhances the enjoyment of those who pass that way. On Saturday he was in the judge’s box, and at home also, and needless to say his decisions were given with that promptness and correctness which has gained for him the reputation of being a first-class judge. He was well assisted by his stewards, and notably by the starter, Mr R. L. Absolum, who handles the red flag well. The following are the details of the days’s racing : — Handicap Hurdles of 5 sovs. Three times round the course. j Mr J. Abbott rode her own nomination, Eric. She succeeded in getting a lot of pace out of her horse, but three-quarters of a mile from home Doone got on terms and never left the issue in doubt. Elying Stakes Handicap of 3| sovs. Once round the course. Mr If. E. Cooney’s Mistake, 9.0 ... ... 1 Dick, 10.2 2 Little Jim (late Luck-at-Last), 9.0. ... ... 3 Betting- I —Even money Dick, 3 to 1 Mistake, 5 to 1 Amateur and Stenson. Mistake won by a length. When half the distance had been traversed, My Sweetheart collided with another horse and fell. The fall ricked her back, and although she had not been destroyed when the visitors left, it is doubtful if she will survive the accident.
