Mr D. C. Ingram, who is shortly leaving Wellington for Auckland, and * hos, photograph we give this week, is well-known in Wellington athletic circles, being a member of the folio-wing clubs:—St. Paul’s Athletic Club, Wellington A.A.C., We lington Rowing Club, Rugby Football Club, Rival* »nd Thorndon Cricket Club and the Wellington Associated Drapers’ Athletic Club. Mr Ingram has been a consistent performer in various branches of sport, and should be as i opular in Auckland as he is in Wellington. We give a picture this week of Mr D. C. Ingram’s Airedale Terrier bitch puppy, Bena of Fernland (imp ), winner of : —lst Open Bitch Class, Ist and Special Non-winners’ Class, Ist and Special Puppies’ Class, Special for Airedale securing most wins in Show, and Special for best Airedale bitch puppy, all at the Wellington Kennel Club’s Show, Octoberl, 1898; also winner at• ti e Hawke s Bay Kennel Club’s Show, October 6 and 7,1898,15 t Open Bitch Class and Special and Champion for Best Airedale dog or bitchin Show. This bitch is by Dumbarton Lad ex Randelwell Vixen. The sire is the most successful stud Airedale in England, whilst the dam is twice a Crystal Palace winner. Bena of Fernland has thus won four firsts and five specials, the only limes shown. The familiar face of Mr John Lennard, the squire of the beautiful Favona Farm at Mangere,
will quickly be recognised by all old residents, of whom Mr Lennard is one of the oldest, and as a fitting accompaniment of the descriptiou of Favona Farm, the picture of Fabulist, the pet of the ranche, is given.
The performances of Castashore and Daunt at Napier entitle them to a place in our illustrations. A picture is also given of Professor J. P. de Blumenthal, who is at present lecturing in the South.
