OTAGO.
Bad weather and no work— An unpromising look-out—Red, Lancer —Goldspur—The C.J.C. double — A new steward —The 1 .J C. dates. Dunedin, August 16. No work is being done at Forbury, the weather still prohibiting. There are no two-year-olds this season in any of our stables, which is a bad look-out. Red Lanctr has been taken up after a good spell. He is reported to be looking well. Goldspur has wintered well, and the best hopes are entertained that he will race again to advantage. Backers had the best of the deal over the Grand National last week, the public supporters of the double, Dummy and Social Pest, being numerous. Small sums of £25 to £5O wins was the order, which in the aggregate told heavily on the metallicans. The same pair also received big support for their separate races. The D.J.C. has awarded lOgs to the New Zeiland Turf Register Mr J. Fleming has resigned his position as steward, Mr A. E. S. Carr being elected to the vacancy. The following dates have been selected by the club for the season’s racing : —Spring Meeting, October 14 and 15 ; Summer Meeting, December 26 and 27; Autumn Meeting, Maach 22, 23, and 25; Birthday Meeting, May'24 and 25. With the exception of the latter’ meeting, the dates have all been altered, which change was a necessity. There was a considerable diversity of opinion as to the dates, but the general idea appears to be that the club has done well in the selection. The officers elected are the same as last season. There is no betting to report on the New Zealand Cup, matters being at a dead standstill.
