The Wanganui Ladies’ Swimming Club,- a group of whose swimmers appeals in this issue, has a membership of fully one hundred, and has held, during the season just closed, several highly successful swimming sports. The club possesses a water polo team, which few, if any, sister clubs can boast of. Mrs Mowtell, the good lady of the energetic popular custodian of the Wanganui Baths, is captain of the club, and devotes much time and trouble in giving instruction to beginners. Other swimming pictures in this issue are of prominent members of the St. George’s Club, Wanganui, which, though quite a young body, has some excellent representatives of the natatorial art amongst its numerous members. Our sporting pictures comprise some views taken at the recent meeting at Ellerslie, and an excellent likeness of Waiorongomai, the winner of the Autumn Handicap. The daughter of Hotchkiss —Bianca ran well on both days she started at Ellerslie, and she deserves the rest she is being given at her owner’s place. One view we give this week represents the judge’s box at Ellerslie, with the Hon. E. Mitchelson ready to decide a close finish; close to the box is the picturesque tigure of Mr Selby, the clerk of the course. The other p ctures are the finish for the Autumn Handicap, Magpie getting over the double in the Autumn Steeplechase, and a view of the lawn at a time when the people were promenading.
