THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The League of New Zealand Wheelmen Championship Meeting was held at Dunedin on Thursday and Saturday last, when the finest congregation of cyclists ever brouht together in this colony met in competition. The record of the gathering is as under:—
One Mile Handicap.—J. McMillan, Dunedin, 130yds, 1; L. Graham, Auckland, 40yds, 2; Donn, Timaru, 45yds, 3. Other starters; Blake 25yds, F. Wallis 110yds, J. Hunley 40yds, Lawson 180yds, Maw 90vds. Stewart 120yds, A. Demey 40yds, W. Clarkson 130yds, H. Gunthorpe 125yds. Won by a few inches. Time, 2min 18 4-ssec. Half-Mile Amateur Championship of New Zealand.— J. 8. White, Otago, 1; G. H. Thompson, Canterbury, 2 ; J. A. Thompson, Southland, 3. Other starters: L. J. Lloyd, Canterbury ; G. C. Moore, Otago ; A. R. Grierson, Otago; R. G. Sise, Otago. Won by three lengths. Time, Imin 9 l-ssec.
Malf-Mile League Championship of New Zealand.—E. Reynolds, Auckland; A. R. Barker, Christchurch. 2; G. Sutherland, Christchi reh. 3. Other starters : Wall, Maxwell, Walker. Won by a few inches. Time, Imin 22 l-ssec.
Three Miles Amateur Championship.— L. G. Lloyd, Canterbury, 1; J. 8. White, Otago, 2; J. A. Simpson, Southland, 3. Other starters: H. Thompson, E Morgan, W. Begg, C. Sise. Won by a yard. Five Miies League Championship of New Zealand. —G. Sutherland, Christchurch. 1; A. Ralston, Dunedin, 2 ; A. E. Wall, Christchurch, 3. Seven others started. Won by 30 yards. Time, 12min 30sec. Two Miles League Handicap.—Chalmers, Dunedin 230yds, 1; Stewart, Otago, 250yds, 2; Graham, Auckland 210yds, 3. Seven out of the eight qualified started in the final heat. Won by two yards. Time, smin 18 2-ssec. 880yds Flat Handicap.—Price, 45yds, 1; McCauley, 2. Won anyhow. Time. 2min 7sec. Five Mile Enfield Challenge Cup, valued 75 guineas ; to be held by club. First prize, £10; second, £4; third, £1. —G. Sutherland, Christchurch, 1; E. Reynolds, Auckland, 2 ; A. Ralston, Dunedir, 3. Blade, Maw. H. Reynolds, Humphieys, Maxwell, Chalmers, and Barker also started, but all dropped out during the progress of the race. Won by 10 yards. Time, 12min 52sec. The Test Mile between Sutherland, the mile cash champion, and White, the amateur cash champion, did not come off. The men rode round once, shook hands, and retired.
