Our Illustrations.
On Monday next “ The Sign of the Cross ” will be played for the first time in Auckland. On our theatrical page will be found pictures of Miss Elliott Page as Berenise, Miss Linda Raymond as Dacia, and of Mr Julius Knight in the character of Marcus Superbus. In one picturse we give the “counterfeit presentments” of two celebrities much talked about at the present moment — Swordfish, with Wilson, the champion walker, at his head. Swordfish, whose most recent victories (the Egmont Cup and Atkinson Memorial Stakes) are fresh in the memory of our readers, was well supported for the Taranaki Cup run yesterday, but. he was not in a winning vein. A photograph of another winning racehorse is that of Thunder, who was first past the post in the Failway Plate at the recent Pahiatua meeting. The picture of the grandstand at the Pahiatua Racecourse shows what a young but enterprising club can do in a little time. The other pictures this week are re- - productions of scenes in the Saddling Paddock at the recent Takapuna Meeting.
