Mr E. Browne, of Palmerston North, has sufsered an unfortunate loss in the death of his thoroughbred gelding Record Reign, by Hiko — Phoenix. It appears that the horse, owing to an obstruction in his throat, was slowly starving to death, so, in order to put him out of his misery, he was shot on Sunday. On a post mortem examination being made it was found that a piece of rope, which the horse had chewed, had stuck firmly in his throat and thus obstructed the passage. Record Reign showed much promise, and a high value was placed upon him by his owner.
