THE TARATAHI - CARTERTON RACING CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club was held on Saturday. Mr G. Grace (President) was in the chair, and congratulated the club on its sound financial position. The credit balance had risen during the year from £42 to £329. This was due to the very effective work of the stewards, and in a great measure to the secretary, Mr W. McKenzie. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr W .C. Buchanan, M.H.R.; president, Mr N. Grace; vicepresidents, Messrs E. W. Dorset and F. Pearce ; judge,Mr G. Tulley; treasurer, Mr G. W Deller; timekeeper, Mr N. Grace; starter, Mr H. Morrison; clerk of the scales, Mr J. Dalrymple ; clerk of course, Mr Herbert Welch. Mr W. McKenzie was re-elected hon. secretary, and was given a bonus of £35 for his services. Last year Messrs H. S. Izard and C. Kettle having resigned as stewards, Messrs F. Bright and T. Ray were elected in their places, and the remainder- of the stewards were re-elected. The definition of a hack was amended to read —“ A hack is a horse that has never won a race exceeding £4O in value, hack or hunter race excepted.” It was resolved to increase the stakes to £6OO for two days, and the stewards were instructed to prepare a programme accordingly. It was resolved that nominations be taken for the 1899 Guineas (value 100 guineas), on the same lines as the 1898.
