Our Illustrations
The Sporting Review this week is rich in pictures. The celebration of the record reign of Queen Victoria makes it appropriate that we should present our readers with portraits of Her Majesty, together with those of the Prince and Princess of Wales. A flashlight picture of the interior of the Opera House, with its “Matsa” audience, will be interesting, and even without the aid of a glass man? well-known faces will be recognised. Our theatrical pictures are those of Min Harrie Marshall, the talented leading lady of the St. John and Hayman’s Australian dramatic combination, now playing at the Opera House, and Mr Irve Hayman, of the same company. Our licensed victuallers are represented by the portrait of Mr George Lorain, while among the sporting pictures is a view of the straight at Ellerslie, taken when Levanter was finishing in front of Tally-Ho in the Great Northern Steeplechase. There is also a picture of Perform, the winner of the Maiden and Tally-Ho Handicap Steepleebases at the late meeting, as well as snapshots taken at the Dunedin Meeting. We may here remark that copies of the flashlight picture of the Opera House may be obtained from Mr J. A. Slack, 21 Coombe’s Arcade.
