Our Illustrations.

In our illustrations is a reproduction from a photograph taken by Mr J. A. Slack for the Viking Wheel Company, which will show the general public to what extraordinary tests a Cleveland cycle may be put. We are assured that there is not another make of wheel imported into the colony which could be put to a more severe strain. The gentlemen on the wheel are : Messrs. B. Hope, J. Hope, W. J. White (manager of Viking Wheel Co.), B. Hendry (a leading cash cyclist), and B. W. Schofield. The machine itself weighs only 24-|lbs, and is guaranteed in every part. Purchasers of Cleveland cycles may have their machines put to the same and even more severe tests before delivery, should they so wish. The snapshots, or as we call them sketches in Ellerslie paddock have quite caught on with the public. There seems to be a charm to the patrons of Ellerslie in finding afterwards that all unconsciously their photo has been taken, always excepting those who may have been discovered talking to the wrong boy or girl. In a case of that kind the word chaos is the best way of alluding to what follows. The picture of that fine looking colt St. Conon, by St. Leger—Sapphire, is given. His performances at the recent meeting at Ellerslie were disappointing, but we have not seen the best of him yet. The well bred Trentalto, by that great sire Trenton out of Montalto, finds a place among our pictures. At the early stage of three she has retired from the turf, and the latest news is to the effect that she is in foal to the defunct Dreadnought. This youngster should be a good one. Ingar, the winner of the Easter Trot at the late Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting at Potter’s Paddock, is also given.
