The Lake Takapuna hack race-meeting on Saturday promises to be a big success, as the acceptances are of a highly satisfactory nature. The betting will be conducted by members of Tattersall’s Club. Privileges in connection with the Otahuhuand Suburban Clubs race meeting will be sold by Mr Beale to-morrow. The s.s. Gairloch, as will be seen by advertisement, has been put on for the benefit of visitors to the Egmont Winter Meeting. The acceptances and the entries for the Selling Race, to be run at the annual meeting of the Otahuhu and Suburban Club on the Bth May, close to-morrow night. The Winter Meeting of the Egmont Racing Club commences on Wednesday next, and finishes on the following day. The programme is framed in a liberal spirit, and there is every reason to hope and expect that Mr A. G. Brett will have the pleasant duty of reporting a pronounced financial success when he has totalled up the receipt’s. The fact should be borne in mind that nominations for the Grand National Hurdle Race and the Grand National Steeplechase, to be run for at the Northern New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase meeting, to be held on June sth and 7th, close to-morrow night. The sum of 2sovs is the fee required in each race. On Wednesday and Thursday next, at the City Hall, a novel cycling entertainment is announced in our advertising columns as “ The Latest London Craze.” The attractions include a grand musical ride on bicycles, with illuminations and limelight effects, a bicycle drama in pantomine, “ Off for the Honeymoon,” a number of splendid tableaux, and a concert, to which Misses E. L. Fearon and Katie Fitzpatrick, and Messrs Abel Rowe, Archdale Tayler, Tom Adams, Alf. Bartley, etc., will contribute some of their favourite items. With such a tempting bill at such reasonable prices a crowded house seems more than likely, and it will be wise to secure seats, which can be done on payment of an extra sixpence.
