CASTOR (imp.) by Zealot (son of the famous "sh Hermit, winner of the Derby, 1857) out of Lady Yarcuej by the great Sterling (sire of Isonomy—said to be th greatest racehorse of his day). Castor’s pedigree contain no less than twelve English Derby winners, six St. Legei four Oaks, and four 2,000 Guineas ; and, out of twenty six starts, Castor scored seventeen wins, four seconds, an three thirds, being only twice unplaced. Since being a the stud he has done well, and for the season 1895-96 h is sixth on the list of winning sires for New Zealand, wit fifteen wins, representing £2,085. In the previous seaso Castor was eighth in the winning sires’ list, his seve descendants having placed 1,777 sovs to his credit. While on the turf Cuirassier ran second t Manton in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (beaten a head) an won the Great Northern Derby (beating Manton, Baglai Hilda, &c., in the fast time of 2min 40Jsec), the Gres Northern St. Leger, Railway Stakes Handicap, and Tris Stakes. Several juveniles that Cuirassier has sired ar full of promise, and next season, it is safe to predict, h will be well up in the list of winning stallions. In the 1895-9 season he was once more at the head of the list witl twenty winners of £5,047 Ils. Among horses that St Leger has sired are St. Hippo and Impulse (both N.Z. Cu; winners), St. Paul, Acone, Nestor, Clanranald, Hippomenes, St. Andrew, St. Clements, Waiuku, Doris, Regel St. Laura, St. Regel, Sylvia Park, Rex, Lord Dunluce St. Mary, Retaliation, St. Anthony, Marquis of Tewkes bury, Town Moor, St. Kilda, St. Patrick, Ben Godfrey Terms : 35 guineas for single mares ; 30 guineas two o: more mares belonging to the same owner. HOTCHKISS, by Musket (imp.)—Petroleuse (imp.), bj Oxford —Hartshorn, by Mountain Deer. This son o’ Musket promises to be a great sire. He has produced amongst others, Forma, True Blue (whose achievements in Australia stamp him as a racer of the highest class) Osculator, who an Wallace to a head for the last Victoriai Derby.
