THE UNDERMENTIONED JJpHOROUGHBRED jgTAELIONS WILL STAND AT WELLINGTON PARK. ■ '' CASTOR (imp.) by- Zealot (son of the famous sire Hermit, •winner of the Derby, 1857) out of Lady Yardley, by the great Sterling (sire of Isonomy—said to be the greatest racehorse of his day). Castor’s pedigree contains no less than twelve English Derby winners, six St. Leger, four Oaks, and four 2,000 Guineas; and, out of twentysix starts, Castor scored seventeen wins, four seconds, and three thirds, being only twice unplaced. Since being at the stud he has done well, and for the season 1895-96 he is sixth on the list of winning sires for New Zealand, with fifteen wins, representing £2,085. In the previous season Castor was eighth in the winning sires’ list, his seven descendants having placed 1,777 sovs to his credit. In Armilia and Collarette, Castor has sired two of the fastest fillies that have been seen on any racecourse, while in Casket he has sired a great stayer. Castor’s list is full. CUIRASSIER, by (imm) -Frailty, by Goldsborough—Flora Mclvor, by New Warrior (imp.)—lo, by Sir Hercules. Cuirassier is full brother to the great sire Trenton. While on the turf Cuirassier ran second to Manton in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (beaten a head) and ■won the Great Northern Derby (beating Manton, Raglan, Hilda, &c., in the fast time of 2min 40isec), the Great Northern St. Leger, Rafiway Stakes Handicap, and Trial Stakes. Several juveniles that Cuirassier has sired are full of promise, and next season, it is safe to predict, he •will be well up in the list of winning stallions. Terms : 25 guineas for (single mares; 20 guineas two or more the property of the same owner. I I ST. LEGER (imp.), by Doncastor (Derby winner) out of Atlantis, by Thormanby (Derby winner)—Hurricane (One Thousand winner), by Wild Dayrell (Derby winner). He is undoubtedly New Zealand’s champion stallion, and in great favour with racing men from one end of the colony to the other. St. Leger was second on the list as winnerproducing sire for 1891-92, was at the top of the tree for season 1892-93, with fourteen winners of £5,250 7s 6a. He was second for 1893-94 •in 1894-95, stood at the top,of the tree ‘with '-nineteen winners £4,559 16s 6a. In the 1895-96 season he was once more at the head of the list with twenty winners of £5,047 11s. Among horses that St. Leger has sired are St. Hippo and Impulse (both N.Z. Cup ■winners), St. Paul, Acone, Nestor, Clanranald, Hippomenes, St. Andrew, St. Clements, Waiuku, Doris, Regel, St. Laura, St. Regel, Sylvia Park, Rex, Lord Dunluce, St. Mary, Retaliation, St. Anthony, Marquis of Tewkesbury, Town Moor, St. Hilda, St. Patrick, Ben Godfrey. Terms: 35 guineas for single mares ; 30 guineas two or more mares belonging to the same owner. HOTCHKISS, by Musket (imp.)—Petroleuse (imp.), by Oxford—Hartshorn, by Mountain Deer. This son of Musket promises to be a great sire. He has produced, amongst others, Forma, True Blue (whose achievements in Australia stamp him as a racer of the highest class), Osculator, who an Wallace to a head for the last Victorian Derby.
